9 Part-time 1 hour ago Full Job Description Description This is a part-time temporary classification designed to provide college/university graduates experience in the field of sustainability and waste management.
The position is currently funded by a grant from the State of California (CalRecycle) and the employee is anticipated to work a total of approximately 900 to 1,100 hours depending on scheduling needs.
Employees receive on-the-job training and are reimbursed the current Federal mileage rate for all miles driven that are work related.
The initial hourly pay rate ranges from $20.
00 to $28.
00 per hour and will be determined based on qualifications.
The employee's performance will be evaluated bi-monthly resulting in consideration of adjusting the hourly pay rate to higher amounts within the pay rate range.
DEFINITION Under supervision, conduct technical assistance duties and site assessments for residents, multi-family properties, and commercial businesses to monitor waste diversion activities and encourage proper participation in the mandatory recycle and compost collection programs to meet compliance with State and local regulations; assist the City and its franchised collection services contractors with public education and outreach activities including distributing collateral materials; assist with employee engagement and City facilities support; conduct surveys, research, and technical analysis document program participation activities; and perform related work as directed.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):
Assist City staff and the City's contractors with waste assessments, investigating and gathering supporting evidence for compliance with State and local regulations, and disseminating public education materials (decals, doorhangers, posters, service guides, etc.
).
Direct customers to the City's franchised collection services contractors to establish the required recycle and/or compost collection service and obtain technical assistance in improving their recycle and compost programs.
Assist City staff in investigating complaints and propose corrective actions.
Assist City staff with the development and coordination of community and employee awareness education campaigns and programs to increase waste reduction and proper disposal of materials.
Facilitates and participates in promotional and educational opportunities through the following, but not limited to, multi-family and commercial site assessments, multi-family community events, business association/civic organization events, City-sponsored community events and other opportunities as assigned.
Provide employee and City facilities support in complying with State regulations related to procurement and waste diversion.
Prepare reports and maintain up-to-date files and records.
